Which Device Do You Use?
Android IOS Windows Osx/Mac/IOS and Linux etc. - we are about to make a new and better guide here ;)
Tip: in several places it says mumble.sludre.dk but use there m.ddrnet.dk at servername/address.
Both are OK now but m.ddrnet.dk is recommended in the future and we use standard port 64738.
Again access code/password must be specified as well as a certificate creation necessary for some rooms.
Some platforms e.g. android require approval of access to microphone and internet when the program is used
You may find relevant link to download the program/apps below.
You probably have everything you need, it's real FREE
You don’t need to go out and buy an expensive network radio to get started you can settle for some software or an app is even free forever.
-
if you just want to find out if it is something for you, etc. and it
actually works well without having to get a network radio and it works
fine to just use your smartphone, tablet or computer and you can also
connect special microphones if you want it.
We currently have and probably don't get a limit on how many communication devices you can connect to via mumble.
Prerequisites are - that
you have a computer with microphone or an android, iphone ios device
plus a kind of internet access also you can come along because the
programs are quite free and it actually works quite well with good audio
and there are even online shortcuts to "reapters/gateways" so you can
talk on private radio/walkie talkie via computer or smartphone which
also needs an internet connection to access the Danish Digital Radio Net servers.
Many computers/laptops etc. already have a microphone as well as speakers and can run the Mumble program - but many also have a smartphone, tablet, etc. and it is actually not much data that is sent when you use the mrawl app and connect to m.ddrnet.dk server which makes you can communicate with others and have you previously talked via your computer with others then it can of course also run mumble.
If it is a radio network radio, or android smartphone/tablet then the client program is called which can connect you to m.ddrnet.dk
server with the client program itself can actually also connect you to
many more other free network servers in the world if you want so you are
not tied to the Danish Digital Radio Network but we have chosen to make it easy to connect to m.ddrnet.dk in a collaboration with other networks and the available Mumbledigital repeaters.
If you do not have a nickname in advance, you can get a nickname at TangoMike.dk
or possibly. The Alaska club etc, you can also invent a handy nickname
and number, because there may be more called your first name and maybe
also last name so can nicknames be practical and a little easier to
remember maybe.
Below you will find instructions on how to get
started with different devices - PC computer, android, mac, etc. it is
available for it all.
For example, you will find a mixed a
repeater/gateway channel for a repeater on the East Funen - where you
can also chat several of the local WalkieTalkie people in the area via
our network and we are some who do not have the opportunity to set up a
suitable antenna and here it is extra brilliant.
This is just a very short technical guide for Windows installation:
If you have a newer windows, you need to download Mumble for Windows 64 bit version for e.g. windows 10.11 and 12. Note: On some Windows, skalMicrosoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64 download) may need to be installed in order to complete an installation. (If your installation then if it teases then it may be because the file is missing, then you just need to install it first) may be restarted smart hereafter. |
If you have a much older windows? then you may need to pick up x86 version of mumble:
The WindowsX86 version is typical for the older windows and similarly it applies that (X86 download) is possibly. must be installed in advance but on some systems it is already installed but teasing it may be it must be installed first, to complete the installation of mumble client programs. |
Apple Mac/OsX
Note: that you are no longer able to support macOS < 10.13, as Qt no longer supports these versions.
(MacOSX > 10.13 download) and because MaxOSX is so much related to unix, linux, there are certainly other methods for installation on mac. Alternatives installation can be via brew or any similar package system which is very similar to that to linux but is your version newer than 10.13 so use the normal download method. Ps. It is important to let mumble make a certificate (it requires the server) as a fingerprint on alternative to access code. |
Apple IOS (ipad/iphone)
You can also download Mumble to your IOS device via Apple store or click here.
(Insert instructions here - on the way and press the mouth icon to speak at ptt - it is important to make your own certificate on IOS devices or will the server not accept it)
Mumble iphone setup
1 press preference
2 pressure certificate
3 tap on X right corner
4 pressure generate new certificate
5 pressure create
when you have centificate then there are several on mumble that can regresize you so you can get on all channels
Android devices - see further guidance below
Android (3 party suppliers of Mumla) Android Smartphones as well as tablets and POC network radio uses
older android editions but usually you can download and install mrawl via google play appstore. If you can not just download and install mmapla from google playstore then fortunately there are alternatives also such as f-droid if your android does not have google playstore access. Advantages of the alternative suppliers of the Mumla app are that some do not want to be google slaves and would like to have the freedom to drive with older versions that work on their radio without the requirement for the latest android or access to google android playstore. |
Linux
Your Linux distribution gives you access to several official packages for Mumble.
Please see your OS packages.
Distributions with official packages include Debian, Rasbian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Mandriva/ROSA/Unity. However, it also exists different flatpack etc. so it will typically be very easy and download as well as install and otherwise the commadoe is often called: sudo apt install mumble There are additional versions for arm64/raspberry computers which are alternatives to the common mumble client - including Grumble. |

We need to create a new connection profile - you can have several connection profiles depending on who wants to chat:

The server may not know the user James already nor from movies but creates it can also be locked
then you can just invent the good nickname or get one via one of the clubs later.

Different channels or compartments are created - some are more fixed than others.

You can write a message to people in the room, but typically we:
We just need one thing:
We should put which key on your keyboard to be our PTT (Push To Talk) button.

It is also there you can choose sound cards and microphone if there are several connected to the computer.

In the example below we have made two PTT buttons - you can always remove them again and you do not need two buttons but
you can define keys and their function in mumble.

Why you have to hurry to activate PTT on the mural app on the right at the 3 dots you put transmission mode and you need to cross under audio and choose which key is PTT.
If one install mmla on a network radio that already has zello or maybe teamspeak on in advance it can cower a little extra much because then mumble via voice control will send what zello says 😉 it typically gives 3 beeps when entering from zello and a lot of echoes from one to the other 😉
Then stop zello or exit out of it or teamspeak app on your poc radio and you can then activate PTT under the 3 dots close to the magnification glass, which sets you transmit mode to Push - T o- T Talk mode in Danish Press for Talk.
You can over on the other side at hamburger

However, you can have all these apps on your android device.
If you only have a small display you can on your radio you can in general under audio choose the Hide push-to-talk botten because it only makes sense on a smartphone without PTT button.
The Mumla program also just needs to learn what is the PTT button on your radio and you can also choose a better look under Apperance you can choose a different and better theme as and in addition, it may make sense to put Stay Awake active.
On the cheap network radio with poor display with advantage oh also choose to remove the transmit button from the screen because the display is only 248x200 pixels but via the program adb or total control on windows you can change one with wm size 248x200 and on linux you can in addition to the adb program also use scrcpy when network radio is connected via USB cable. Mumble also run fine on the most cheap network radio on the market but I would not recommend the solution to and one should go after an open network radio which has access to the playstore but you have a old phone from huwai who does not have access to for google play so can mmla app downloaded at https://f-droid.org/packages/se.lublin.mlumla and is the POC radio locked to only zello and a menu with setting and zello - then you can replace the launcher menu with a different menu.
